Dr. George Therapondos, practices hepatology and liver transplantation at Ochsner Health. Dr. Therapondos has expertise in all types of advanced liver disease and liver cancer offering comprehensive care for various medical needs, including liver transplantation. Dr. Therapondos earned his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, and he completed most of his postgraduate training in GI/Hepatology at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. He also completed a hepatology fellowship at the University of Toronto where he worked afterwards as staff physician and Assistant professor of Medicine. He has a Master in Public Health (MPH) from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public health and ia a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He is involved in clinical research in advanced liver disease/portal hypertension, alcohol-related cirrhosis and Metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Dr.Therapondos is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of their patients while understanding individual concerns and goals. He has been practicing at Ochsner since 2011. Outside of medicine, he trains in Crossfit and enjoys travelling.
