Biomechanics Lab at Ochsner Hospital for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine

Gait and movement analysis is the process of studying the body's posture and coordination while in motion. It can be used to help identify issues with movement and help inform a spectrum of life improvements: From the best running shoe for your body to recommendations for physical therapy. The goal of a biomechanics study is to identify ways to help a patient be as active and mobile as possible.

To conduct the analysis, the clinical care team at Ochsner Biomechanics Lab uses state-of-the-art 3D motion-capture technology to record and track a patient's movement while walking, squatting, throwing, or balancing.

After the initial study, our specialists review the findings with a patient's physician to develop a plan of care to improve overall function. The personalized plan of care could include physical therapy, medication, and/or modifications to any orthotic, prosthetic or assistive device. In some cases, the gait study could assist in surgical planning.

Ochsner's Biomechanics Lab has been developed to treat both adults and pediatrics, serving patients with a range of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions including:

• AMTI Force Plate
• Blue Trident IMU Inertial Sensors
