Rheumatic disease is an autoimmune and inflammatory disorder that causes the immune system to attack previously healthy tissues, such as the muscles and joints, with inflammatory chemicals originally meant to fight off infections. As a result, this can cause swelling, pain and tenderness of the joints or soft tissues as well as affect the skin or other organs.

At Ochsner Children’s Hospital, the Pediatric Rheumatology team will diagnosis and provide individualized treatment for children and adolescents with rheumatologic disorders. We offer many biological therapies and medications for our patients.

  • Juvenile ankylosing spondylitis
  • Uveitis
  • Autoinflammatory disorders

Pediatric Rheumatologist Jane El-Dahr, MD, is the only dual trained pediatric allergist, immunologist and rheumatologist in the Gulf South region. Our pediatric rheumatologist collaborates with different specialties across the system to provide the highest quality care to our patients. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of a nurse navigator, pediatric ophthalmologist, physical therapist or occupational therapist, psychologist, social worker and dietitian. Your child will have an experienced and dedicated team with them every step of the way.
